Garrison roof 2015 - Roof repairs to Garrison building at St Nathys College,

Roof repair works to the garrison building portion of St Nathy's College, which is a protected structure

This is a stone building, built by the British Army shortly after the 1798 rebellion.

It has historic roof trusses and leaking lead valleys. The ceilings are lath and plaster.

In the 1960's the original slate roof was replaced with artifical slates that contain asbestos.

The roof is to be stripped back to the timber structure, which is generally in reasonable order, but with some rot and woodworm infestataion.

Some ceilings just under the attic are to be taken down and replaced, as they are in danger of collapse.

The roof structure is to be treated and carefully repaired with new valleys.

The new slates are to be a small sized, textured natural slate.

All works are to carefully recorded and carried out in conjunction with the Conservation Architect and the Roscommon Co Co Heritage Officer

With regard to the asbestos - only asbestos consultants and asbestos removal contractors on the OPW list may be used
