School Energy Pathfinder Programme 2022 - Pre-Qualification of Contractors

 

Deep Energy Retrofit and School Refurbishment Works including Site Works at Scoil Mhuire National School, Abbeyleix, Co. Laois.

 

The project are part funded by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) under the School Energy Pathfinder Programme 2022.

 

Introduction

The existing school building is located to the north east of Abbeyleix town along Ballyroan road. The site is relatively flat and is bounded by Ballyroan road to the north west, Rathmoyle road to the north east and a mix of open fields or private residential lands to the south east and west.  Entry to the site is from Ballyroan road with one way In-Out access points. There is defined parental, and minibus set down within the site to the front of the school building along Ballyroan road and staff visitor parking located within the site along Rathmoyle road. The school building is centrally located within the site and has a mix of hard and grassed play areas to the south east and south western areas within the site.

 

The school building related to the work is as follows;

1980 Original Building – 4no. square flat roof single story buildings arranged in a ‘C’ Shape linked together with flat roofed entrance/exit lobbies containing ancillary accommodation, some of which were formally WCs. Three of the blocks contain 4no. Ensuite classrooms giving a total of 12no. classrooms, each accessed via a central corridor. The fourth block contains the original GP Hall currently modified to form a teaching space with an impromptu quiet space. This area is surrounded with a mix of resource rooms, SET Rooms, Principal’s office, staff rooms, staff WC’s, visitors WC.  

The works shall consist of

  • Internal refurbishment works to the 1980’s block, including new floor and ceiling finishes, disposal of Asbestos Containing Materials, new internal doors, new sanitary ware, alterations of classroom toilet layouts, new classroom fixtures and fittings, new accessible toilet and
  • Energy Retrofit works to the school building to include insulated external render system, pumped cavity wall insulation, partial internal drylining works, new insulated roof coverings, new external windows and doors and air tightness works to external wall openings, electrical upgrade works to include new lighting installation, PV panels, emergency lighting, EV charging and electrical works to new heating installations, new back up gas boiler installation, new heating and distribution pipework and radiators, new renewable heating installation, BMS system and controls, MVHR installation, all associated external trenching and ducting to facilitate new building services.

It is anticipated the Works Programme are to be completed during 2022.

The works are to be completed in a phased and sequential manner to facilitate continual school operational capacity.

We now seek to Pre-qualify Competent Contractors who will meet the minimum requirements as set out in the Appendix M and all listed QW1 Appendix Documents A to L.
