New Pilot plant scale batch/batch-fed microbial Fermenter/BioReactor with a working volume of 200L, with in situ sterilisation capacity, temperature and pH monitoring and control, dissolved oxygen monitoring and control, ability to operate under anaerobic and aerobic conditions, foam control, aseptic inoculation and sampling ports with sufficient redundancy to support a large diversity of fermentation types/processes and flexibility to facilitate subsequent upgrading and interaction with up- and down- stream processes and unit operations.
An associated 20L in situ fermentation and control unit the role of which will be to prepare seed culture for the larger 200L fermenter is desirable. This unit should be a scaled down version of the 200L fermenter (to ensure similar environmental and dynamic conditions as pertain in the larger fermenter) with a similar set of monitors, control units etc. This fermenter should have the capacity to operate independently. This unit should include an aseptic transfer system to the 200L fermenter.
