Short description
The proposed development consists of the realignment of a section of the existing N59 between Maam Cross and the townland of Bunnakill in County Galway. This section of road is approximately 5km in length and involves the construction of a new Type 3 standard single carriageway consisting of a 6m carriageway, 0.5m hard strips and verges of approximately 2m to 3m. Upgrades also include the improvement / realignment of a number of local and access roads.The Project includes earthworks in challenging ground conditions, excavation and replacement of substantial quantities of peat, including removal of peat underlying existing road and the construction of two peat restoration areas and five material deposition sites.There are a number of structures on the scheme possibly including two new bridges and two retaining walls.
The proposed scheme is located in an environmentally sensitive area and environmental mitigation measures will form a very important aspect of the scheme.
