DesignPro is developing a hydro-kinetic turbine to generate electrical power from water flows. The turbine design deploys 2 hydrokinetic turbines connected to in-line gearboxes that drive standard 3 phase induction motors. Given the fluctuating power to be derived from variable water flows, the rotational speed of the turbines must be controlled to standardise the power output, which will need to be adapted to a standard acceptable for grid connection. Accordingly, the Company requires the design, supply and testing of an “AC to AC” power conversion unit together with a control system that is capable of managing the adaptation of the power output to grid acceptable standards.
