About the Health Research Board The Health Research Board (HRB) is the lead agency in Ireland supporting and funding health research. We provide funding, maintain health information systems and conduct research linked to national health priorities. Our aim is to improve people's health, build health research capacity and make a significant contribution to Ireland's knowledge economy. Our latest Corporate Strategy clearly outlines how we hope to achieve this working in partnership with other organizations. Vision: The HRB's vision is to: Enable a world-class health system in Ireland through excellence in research and to contribute actively to the knowledge economy Mission: The HRB's mission is to: Improve people's health through research and information Summary of Requirements The Irish focal point needs to commission a researcher with strong epidemiology and biostatistical skills to support work on drug prevalence, health correlates and consequences data. This work is required to fulfill contracts with the EMCDDA and other international organisations. About the HRB’s EMCDDA work The European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) is a decentralised EU agency based in Lisbon. It provides the EU and its Member States with information on the nature, extent, consequences and responses to illicit drug use. It supplies the evidence base to support policy formation on drugs and addiction in both the European Union and Member States. The EMCDDA coordinates a network of some 30 national monitoring centres, or focal points, (the Reitox network) to gather and analyse country data according to common data- collection standards and tools. The results of this national monitoring process are supplied to the Centre for analysis, from which the Centre produces its Annual report on the state of the drugs problem in Europe and other outputs. The HRB is the designated Irish focal point to the EMCDDA.
