The proposed Shared Space at Peters Hill, envisaged as primarily a pedestrian space will be formed using high quality and durable materials. Seating, signage and information etc will be located within the space to safeguard the setting and views of protected structures. The access road
leading to St. Peters Church of Ireland Gates will be demarcated (within the shared surface area) by a change in the (appropriate) material and colour.
Removal of car parking and redesign of the space will allow an open area and vista for the protected structures that front onto Peters Hill meeting space with reallocation of existing Blue Badge or wheelchair accessible parking to adjoining streets.
A retaining structure will be constructed to modify the existing gradient to be more suitable for pedestrian space along with provision of areas of soft planting and street tree planting.
A bespoke sculptural artwork that will occupy the space at Peters Hill will be undertaken separately to this contract by LCC and PEACE IV. However, the required foundations, footing and connections / fixing for installation of the artwork will form part of this contract.
