Short description

The existing Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) consists of Touch Screen PC’s and Siemens S7 PLC units. Touch screens providing interfaces to the control system are located in the Visual Control Room (VCR) of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower and in the Fire Station Visual Cab (used as a Contingency Tower for ATC); the VCR touch screens are connected to separate PCs within the respective sub cabs. The heart of the system is a Siemens S7 PLC, which communicates with the airfield substation PLC’s using a fibre optic ring. The airfield Maintenance Base houses a Siemens WinCC SCADA system which provides the airport engineering team with information on the status of the airfield lighting equipment and any system alarms. Currently no control is allowed from the Maintenance station.
