“Iarnród Éireann — Irish Rail is seeking suitably qualified candidates to participate in the tender for the supply of between 1 and 6 bogie ballast plough rail wagons. IÉ may choose to have these wagons delivered in 3 batches of 2, for example: 2 wagons in year 1, 2 more wagons in year 2 and a further 2 in year 3. The wagons shall be designed to operate with the existing ‘High Output Ballast System’ (HOBS) wagons, supplied by Wabtec in 2010.

Description of the procurement

“Iarnród Éireann — Irish Rail is seeking suitably qualified candidates to participate in the tender for the supply of between 1 and 6 bogie ballast plough rail wagons. IÉ may choose to have these wagons delivered in 3 batches of 2, for example: 2 wagons in year 1, 2 more wagons in year 2 and a further 2 in year 3. The wagons shall be designed to operate with the existing ‘High Output Ballast System’ (HOBS) wagons, supplied by Wabtec in 2010. The purpose of the bogie ballast plough wagons is twofold: to plough the ballast discharged by the HOBS train and also to supply water for the dust suppression system fitted to the HOBS wagons. A water tank shall be supplied and fitted to the wagon for this purpose. The contract will also include for the necessary training in the operation and maintenance of the wagons. The successful contractor will be required to participate and co-operate with IE’s safety validation process and Commission for Railway Regulation approval (CRR) for introducing new equipment on to IE’s network”
