Description of the procurement

The project is a design and build project.
The proposed development comprises a 4 storey systems build ward block with rooftop plant room which will provide 60 en suite single bedrooms in three wards to be realised on a rapid build basis. The basement floor is primarily reserved for plant equipment associated with the development but also includes some support accommodation including staff changing rooms and stores. The new building will generally be accessed by extension of the existing hospital corridor that serves CSSD and Pathology and which links directly to the main hospital thoroughfare of the main hospital street. A 20 bed ward is provided at this level with further 20 bed wards provided at levels 2 and 3 in identical layouts. The ward layout is based on a racetrack plan where the beds are arranged on the perimeter of the building, where they can obtain light and ventilation, and around a central core of support space as required. A separate staff entrance is provided by way of a new bridge link which connects to the hospital corridor described above. 16 Bicycle spaces are provided close to the staff entrance at level 0.
The project also includes 20 additional car parking spaces which are provided by way of extending the existing car park 3 at the southern end of the site.
