Short description

The Medical Microbiology Laboratory, University Hospital Galway [UHG] is the primary provider of clinical Microbiology services for Galway Roscommon University Hospital Group and for primary care in County Galway and extending to parts of counties Roscommon, Mayo and Clare. It provides a secondary referral service for Portiuncula Hospital, Mayo General Hospital, and the Saolta Healthcare Group. It is the National Reference Laboratory for Salmonella, Shigella and Listeria and for Carbapenemase Producing Enterobacteriaceae testing. It also provides a Public Health Microbiology Laboratory [PHML] service.
The clinical laboratory is accredited to ISO 15189 by the Irish National Accreditation Body (INAB) since April 2009. The PHML is accredited to ISO17025 since 1998.
