SCC2021-019 - Feature Canopy, Stephen Street Car Park, Sligo

The Canopy is a freestanding aluminium structure which will be secured by bolting to concrete foundations. The design shape and arrangement is shown in BDP Drawings / Documents (See Appendix A attached). Fabrication will be carried out offsite with reassembly by bolting sections together at the site in Sligo, it is not envisaged that welding will take place at the site however if the proposed installation process benefits then a small amount of on-site welding could be carried out as long as suitable conditions can be maintained and quality of finish is not compromised. The construction arrangement follows marine rather than land-based fabrication methods with the shell providing structural rigidity, stiffened and supported by the framework. The connection between the supporting members and the shell must be structurally sufficient by quality welding. The Canopy is to be designed to EN1999 Eurocode 9, for achieving structural requirements, the finish and aesthetics are to a higher standard than normal Marine standards as a public feature which will be prominently on display in the centre of the proposed Plaza. The Canopy is to be a showpiece and must be aesthetically pleasing and the end result must be considered throughout construction to avoid damage to the material from careless forming, attachment and removal of lugs and plate distortion from welding. The safety of the public following installation must also be considered and all edges and welds to 2m height above the ground must be dressed.
