The School of Chemistry at NUI Galway are seeking the purchase of a Chemistry Flow System which can carry out safe catalytic hydrogenation. The system must be capable of generating hydrogen safely (e.g. by electrolysis of water) and then carrying out hydrogenation by heterogeneous catalysis. The equipment should be suitable for removal of multiple O-benzyl groups, for example, from complex substrates such as oligosaccharides. The system should be capable of carrying out these reactions at high pressure and high temperatures. In addition to hydrogenation the system may be useful for other metal catalysed reactions at high temperature and pressure under flow conditions. Maintenance of the instruments is relevant. An educational discount should be applied. The buyer is looking for a robust system which should not need to be replaced for seven (7) years and can be maintained during this period. Long-term cost (provision of adequate service contracts) will be important. It is envisaged that this equipment will be used in projects such as that supported by SFI Research Centres (e.g. the SSPC Pharm project and an Irish Research Council Enterprise Partnership Award).
