The scheme comprises of approximately 5km of the N80 National Secondary Route between Portlaoise and Mountmellick in County Laois. The carriageway is constructed on a bog rampart, up to two meters high, which is underlain by bogland for the majority of the length of the scheme. The subsidence/volume change of the peat and bog rampart has resulted in the failure of the existing pavement construction. Kildare National Roads Office anticipates the scheme to comprise of the reconstruction of the existing embankment. The scope of works for the geotechnical consultant include: 1) Desk study, initial site visit and discussion with Kildare National Roads Office; 2) Design of a targeted and detailed ground investigation in accordance with IS EN 1997. 3) Procurement and supervision of ground investigation works; 4) Review of findings of the ground investigation and discussion of embankment construction options with Kildare National Roads Office; 5) Production of Geotechnical Design Report (GDR) in accordance with IS EN 1997-2:2007 and UK DMRB HD22/08. The GDR shall include the Geotechnical Investigation Report.
