Land Acquisition Fund – Overview
Housing for All includes a target to deliver an average of 33,000 houses per annum in the period to 2030. The focus in Housing for All is to deliver new social homes through build programmes delivered by Local Authorities (LA’s) and Approved Housing Bodies (AHB’s). To achieve this, sufficient land is required to deliver these projects. In this regard, Housing for All includes an action to support local authorities to acquire the land required to deliver the new build projects.
In November 2022, the Government approved the establishment of a Land Acquisition Fund to be administered by the Housing Agency (the Agency), with an allocation of €125m in capital funding for 2023. The Agency will be central in managing this national fund for the acquisition of suitable development land to allow LA’s and AHB’s meet their social housing ’delivery targets for social housing out to 2030.
The Housing Agency intends to source acquisition opportunities through a variety of platforms and will acquire lands in accordance with the fund’s governance & internal policies and procedures of the Agency.
