Short description

The North West City Region of Ireland comprises of Donegal County Council and Derry City and Strabane District Council areas covering 6,200 square kilometre’s and is defined by the spatial influences of Letterkenny, Derry and Strabane.
The North West City Region: Donegal County Council and Derry City and Strabane District Council have committed to work together, as detailed within the North West Regional Energy Strategy, with the ambition of decarbonising energy systems and aiming for a region with net zero carbon emissions by 2045. Objectives of North-West Decarb Project: Targets within the Climate Action Plan 2021 will be extrapolated across the North-West City Region to develop the overall work plan for the ‘Agency’ reflected as follows: 1. The Decarbonisation of Public Buildings. 2. Decarbonisation of Transportation. 3. Biodiversity on the public estate.

Description of the procurement

The North West City Region of Ireland comprises of Donegal County Council and Derry City and Strabane District Council areas covering 6,200 square kilometre’s and is defined by the spatial influences of Letterkenny, Derry and Strabane. The importance of this cross-border North West City Region as a key driver for growth has been recognised in the Irish Governments National Planning Framework and is supported by both Governments on the island through the North South Ministerial Council. The North West City Region: Donegal County Council and Derry City and Strabane District Council have committed to work together, as detailed within the North West Regional Energy Strategy, with the ambition of decarbonising energy systems and aiming for a region with net zero carbon emissions by 2045. Decarbonisation zones have been established by Donegal County Council endorsed by the Elected Members (June 2021) are Carndonagh and Gortahork / Falcarragh and the selected decarbonisation zones for Derry City and Strabane District Council will be Castlederg and St Columb’s Park and Surroundings (Waterside, Derry City). Objectives of North-West Decarb Project: Targets within the Climate Action Plan 2021 will be extrapolated across the North-West City Region to develop the overall work plan for the ‘Agency’ reflected as follows: 1. The Decarbonisation of Public Buildings. 2. Decarbonisation of Transportation. 3. Biodiversity on the public estate. Tender submissions are being sought from Competent Consultants to complete a Feasibility Study, Business Case & Economical Appraisal & Marketing /Communication plan as part of the North West Decarb project.
