Short description

RTÉ is seeking solutions from suitably qualified candidates for a modern IP based media network located at its premises in Montrose, Donnybrook, Dublin 4.
RTE has 5 production galleries, seven television studio floors and three sound stages on its main campus in Donnybrook. The production galleries and other associated production infrastructure are a mix of SD and HD SDI.
The current station router or house router is a monolithic SDI routing device that connects these galleries to other parts or RTÉ’s production infrastructure. This device is nearing end of useful life and needs to be replaced. As part of our long-term move to using IP for production signal distribution, we have made the decision to replace this router with a modern, scalable IP based media network.
The value quoted covers a 5 year contract term, an average of €560k per annum.

Description of the procurement

RTÉ will replace and expand its existing centralised HD-SDI station router (384x384) with a fully IP solution / production network. This solution is expected to be standards based around ST-2110 and ST-2022-7 and related standards. The new solution will support at least 600x600 signals in HD-SDI, be fully non-blocking and the spine network should have 50% port expansion capacity. It is expected that a physically distributed network will be put in place with full path redundancy. This project is called Orion.
This is a strategic investment that lays the groundwork to modernise and future proof RTÉ’s live production and will be implemented in existing buildings on the RTÉ campus in Dublin. The intention is to build the scalable and flexible network required for IP video production without needing to replace all the production infrastructure in one go.
