Description of the procurement

The Authority wishes to undertake a National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) throughout the Republic of Ireland between September 2022 and early December 2022. The purpose of the survey is to gather travel information statistics for the Authority’s on-going transportation planning role and to provide essential travel data for the update of their regional transport models and for the development of additional transport modelling tools. This survey will, once completed, represent the third such National Household Travel Survey, the first having been undertaken in 2012 and the most recent in 2017. (Earlier equivalent surveys were limited to the Greater Dublin Area.)
As such, the Authority is also aiming to glean “longitudinal” travel-related statistics, i.e., observed changes in travel patterns, if any, over this 10 year period, included those related to Covid-19 effects, expansion of broadband internet connectivity and communications, etc. For ease of comparison backwards to the 2017 survey, the Authority is especially keen to maintain consistency in the methodology and sample sizes in NHTS 2022, namely clustered, stratified probability sampling units (PSUs) carefully designed to maximise, within budget, the representativeness of the national survey.
