Description of the procurement
This is a call to competition by IE for the procurement of Micro-Piles for delivery to Portlaoise Sleeper Depot, Portlaoise.
The proposal is to purchase an adequate quantity of piles to complete works over 1,440 linear metres of track, ideally in a single delivery to the Portlaoise depot. Vertical and horizontal track alignment issues are a common feature of areas of track with soft peat formations. This often results in permanent speed restrictions of 80mph on a 100mph line and increased maintenance costs as regular tamping is required.
The optimal solution to stabilise the track bed is micro piling as this does not require the removal or lifting of the track or the disruption of scheduled passenger services through the application of additional speed restrictions.
