Description of the procurement
This project involves the construction of a 90 bed HIQA compliant Community Nursing Unit (CNU) located at Ballynamony Rd., Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim in a combination of Long Stay, Short Stay and Dementia Wards. The building will also accommodate a designated Rehabilitation Facility on Level 2. The Proposal for Carrick on Shannon CNU is as follows -
Ground Floor Plan; Main building entrance including reception and administration, Oratory, Therapy rooms, Two 10 Bed Dementia Wards, Kitchen, Ancillary accommodation including staff rooms, laundry and plant spaces.
First Floor Plan; Two 25 Bed Long Stay Wards, Staff area including changing room and meeting rooms, family area including overnight room.
Second Floor Plan; One 20 Bed Short Stay Ward, Rehab Facilities, external roof garden. The architectural intention is to minimise the height of the building in storeys as far as feasible, with a split two storey solution proposed. The building massing proposal involves 2 No. two storey intersecting courtyard buildings that intersect and step up the sloping site. Setting the building into the slope of the site as far as possible succeeds in reducing the apparent scale of the CNU. The building steps downwards in scale adjacent to neighboring dwellings. The building is regular in form with floor plans generally stacked vertically, lending to ease of structural and service solutions and ease of buildability.
