The goals of the Gamification Demonstrator are to boost GMIT's ability to create increased awareness, educational impact, and behavioural change amongst GMIT staff and students around sustainable energy. Available campus resources that could be utilised include a 12-15 focal points on GMIT’s sustainable energy campus tour, the sustainable energy educational laboratory and iSET's E-THERMAL research laboratory. Visitor access to these sustainable energy resources could be provided by a combination of on-site and on-line Gamification Demonstrator.
The on-line Gamification Demonstrator will;
• Translate Behavioural Change Plan (devised by the Energy Consultant) into a highly interactive Gamification Demonstrator built using software such as Unreal Engine 4.
• Anchor this Gamification Demonstrator around a virtual campus model of the physical infrastructure (buildings, carparks, facilities, laboratories, services and functions) of GMIT's Dublin Road campus, since the initial trial target gamers are GMIT students and staff.
• Games will leverage the use of focal points, campus energy tours and sensor data (temperature/humidity sensors and energy monitors) that will increase awareness of sustainable electricity, heating and transport
• Convert increased energy awareness into an engaging energy saving challenge game or competition that is easily accessible to all students and staff.
• Facilitate three gaming modes: first person pedestrian, aerial (drone) and Segway/vehicle.
