Cork County Council seeks to procure, via restricted procedure tender, a suitably qualified and experienced Contractor for the Water-Rock LIHAF Initiative Infrastructure Works. The proposed scheme consists of a number of infrastructure projects in the Water-Rock Urban Expansion Area (UEA) in Midleton Co. Cork. These Works are collectively known as the ‘Water-Rock LIHAF Initiative Infrastructure Works – Water-Rock UEA’ and consist of four infrastructure projects:
Projects P1 & P2: Services Corridor Link Road and Surface Water Management System,
Project P3: Upgrade of Knockgriffin Junction,
Project P4: Traffic Management Measures at Water-Rock Road Level Crossing.

Description of the procurement

Cork County Council seeks to procure, via restricted procedure tender, a suitably qualified and experienced Contractor for the Water-Rock LIHAF Initiative Infrastructure Works. The proposed scheme consists of a number of infrastructure projects in the Water-Rock Urban Expansion Area (UEA) in Midleton Co. Cork. These Works are collectively known as the ‘Water-Rock LIHAF Initiative Infrastructure Works – Water-Rock UEA’ and consist of four infrastructure projects:
Projects P1 and P2:
Services Corridor Link Road, including spurs and access roads, and (P2) surface water drainage network to be constructed below same and extended to connect to the existing drainage network in the Midleton Northern Relief Road. The Services Corridor Link Road is a proposed road, c.1.2km in length, which will connect the Midleton Northern Relief Road in the east to the Water-Rock Road (Castle Rock Avenue) in the west. The proposed road cross section is typically a 7m carriageway with a 3m wide verge, a 2.25 wide cycle track and a 2m wide footpath on both sides.
Project P3:
Works are proposed on the eastern and western arms of the Cork/ Midleton Road and Midleton Northern Relief Road Junction and on the Cork/ Midleton Road at its junction with Kennel Road. The scope includes, but is not limited to: earthworks, site clearance, pavements for the new carriageway, new footpath including tactile paving, kerbing, traffic signals, traffic signs, road marking and drainage.
Project P4:
The scope of works for this project will involve the erection of demountable bollards, north and south of the Irish Rail level crossing on Water-Rock Road to close the level crossing to private vehicles. Following erection by the Contractor the bollards shall be removed to a location to be agreed with Cork County Council. The bollards will be erected permanently by Cork County Council when the Services Corridor Link Road is opened on to Water-Rock Road.
