Donegal County Council proposes to carry out a Town Centre Regeneration Project within the historic commercial centre of Ramelton in the Letterkenny Municipal District The Ramelton Historic Town Centre Public Realm Scheme is a major integrated and heritage led restorative and transformational town centre regeneration project that provides for a suite of public realm interventions that will be designed to not only transform the physical environment but also to re-establish social purpose and commercial function to under-utilised and redundant public spaces and places of both prominence and scale. It will deliver landmark high quality multi-functional recreation and amenity space which respects architectural heritage and conservation, is environmentally informed and provides a platform for the transition of Ramelton towards a low-carbon future. Description of the procurement

Donegal County Council proposes to carry out a Town Centre Regeneration Project within the historic commercial centre of Ramelton in the Letterkenny Municipal District. It will deliver landmark high quality multi-functional recreation and amenity space which respects architectural heritage and conservation, is environmentally informed and provides a platform for the transition of Ramelton towards a low-carbon future. It forms part of an ambitious, longer term collaborative Action Plan for the town that will transform the urban fabric through environmental improvements, that will contribute to a more attractive place for residents and visitors and will support and incentivise existing and prospective business, enterprise, community and voluntary activities and private sector investment in the renewal of the town.
The Ramelton Transformational Public Realm Scheme consists of the following five key public realm interventions:
1. The re-creation of a pedestrian priority integrated civic space inclusive of a commercial market space in Gamble’s Square;
2. The re-instatement of the Market Cross as a meeting place including the installation of a new sculpture to replace the original Market Cross;
3. The formation of a Market Green Events & Garden Centre at ‘the Bing’ (Former Pig Market) as a pivotal central gathering space within the core of the town which provides a functioning multi-user space to include a public garden, a Children’s Play Park and an events space;
