Short description

The scheme provides for a pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Royal Canal and Dublin to Sligo Railway, at Saunders Bridge adjacent to the Ardmore Road, Mullingar.
Westmeath County Council are seeking suitably, qualified, competent, experienced Engineering Consultants to conclude legal agreements with both Iarnród Eireann and Waterways Ireland, procurement and award of construction contract, full site supervision and administration of construction stages and close out of the project.
The Consulting Engineer shall also be appointed as Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) for Stages 3-5 of the project in accordance with the current Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations.

Description of the procurement

Westmeath County Council proposes to develop a new pedestrian and cycle bridge at Saunders Bridge, Mullingar to facilitate the safe movement of additional pedestrians to a proposed new school scheduled for completion in the coming months. The scheme provides for a pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Royal Canal and Dublin to Sligo Railway, at Saunders Bridge adjacent to the Ardmore Road, Mullingar. The proposed scheme includes a suspended bridge deck and landing, bridge support structure, approach walkways / cycle ways, revised landscape area, cycle balustrades and ancillary works. The bridge will have a span of 40m and will be 3m wide. The proposed works will take place on the northern side of the existing railway and canal bridges.
