St James's Hospital
The Fluorescent in-situ hybridisation (FISH) laboratory in the Histopathology Department at St. James’s Hospital has provided a hospital and national service since the 2010. The service is staffed by two medical scientists. Currently the service offers the following assays for diagnostics and predictive testing:
• Her2 gene amplification found in Breast/Gastric/Colorectal Cancer
• Gene rearrangement /translocations found in Lymphomas
• Alk and ROS1 gene rearrangement found in NSCLC
The Fluorescent in-situ hybridisation (FISH) technique is performed as a semi-automated assay, on formalin fixed paraffin embedded material.
Future Development
Possible introduction of additional esoteric FISH testing for Lymphoma nationally
• DUSP22, TP63 rearrangements
• 11q aberration.
Possible development of Myeloma FISH service.
