Description of the procurement

The first cytometer will upgrade the existing Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Core within the Trinity Translational Medicine Institute (TTMI). It will serve as a hub across many thematic priorities in TCD including Ageing; where biomarkers from the TILDA longitudinal cohort will be interrogated, Cancer; where the significance of stem cells, circulating tumour cells and the role of inflammation, the immune system in promoting metastasis and as a vehicle for therapeutic intervention may be explored in clinical samples; it will service nanomedicine and nanoscience and genomics of human disease, all the while underpinning excellence in research and education.

Description of the procurement

The second cytometer will be installed in the Flow Cytometry Facility within the School of Biochemistry and Immunology was set up in 2005 and is located in the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute (TBSI). With over 150 regular users from various Schools within TCD and other institutions this is a very busy facility with extensive experience and expertise. With a dedicated manager, training, supervision, and assistance is provided in all aspects from experimental design through instrument set up, data acquisition and analysis. The University is seeking low maintenance, robust flow cytometers that produce minimal waste in line with the Provost’s sustainability initiatives.
