Description of the procurement

Louth County Council intends to undertake public realm improvement works on Clanbrassil Street and St. Nicholas Quarter in the heart of Dundalk Town Centre, which are the main thoroughfares to and from the Town Centre.
It is expected that the Contractor will not have vacant possession of the entire works areas at any one time and that the works will be carried out in phases/stages in order to ensure that any disruption to local businesses, pedestrians, vehicular traffic and local residents will be minimal.
The proposed works seek to:
• Enhance the public realm across the site;
• Resurface the existing pavement both on the footpath, carriageway and parking bays to create a unified look and safe surface throughout the site; ( Approx area 11,500m2)
• Extend the public footpath as to create a wider urban open space with plantings and seating between the two churches around the St. Nicholas Quarter;
• Create safer and inclusive crossing junctions throughout the route.
Pedestrians will be the priority users with the introduction of traffic calming measures including raised table junctions and footpath build-outs to ensure that traffic speeds are reduced. The proposed layout of the scheme generally involves widening the footpaths, narrowing the road width, tightening the turning radii at junctions and providing more pedestrian crossings. Roads will be resurfaced as follows: Footpaths – Granite, Parking Bays and Carriageway – Asphalt.
One of the key improvement as part of this public realm proposal is the extension of the footpath to create an improved urban public open space that links the 2 churches.
Granite planters are to be installed at key locations across the site. Provision of new LED Street Lighting. Provision of new water main infrastructure (approximately 565 m) including water meters (approximately 144 Nr)
This project is co-funded by the Irish Government and by the European Regional Development Fund.
Note: Removal of overhead power lines by the ESB will take place during the proposed works. A
