First opened to the public in 1985 as a visitor attraction, it all started with the gardens and the Great Telescope and was subsequently followed by the Science Galleries, Shop, Café and Treehouse Adventure Playground. In recent years, the opening of the castle itself for tours for 4 months each summer was also added. Each phase has resulted in increased visitors and revenue.
