The Euratrom Basic Safety Standards Directive (Directive 96/29/Euratrom) requires that certain tasks concerning radiation protection are undertaken by ‘qualified experts.’ In Ireland, a qualified expert is referred to as a ‘Radiation Protection Adviser,’ as defined by S.I. 125 of 2000.

The required services are governed by statutory provisions and are vital in an acute hospital context. In the interest of patient safety, it is necessary to ensure continuation of cover in respect of Radiation Protection Adviser services for all hospital sites falling under the scope of this competition.
