Description of the procurement

The Explorers Education Programme™ is a primary school outreach programme that was established in 2006 by the Marine Institute to help promote marine science and ocean literacy in schools. The programme is currently run in collaboration with outreach centres including aquariums, as well as marine, environmental and science outreach centres. The education programme is also supported by a number of regional education centres (ATECI).
The Explorers outreach centres are responsible for the delivery of one or more of the following Explorer marine based modules to primary school classes. The Explorers modules include:
1. Module 1: Saltwater aquariums in a class and project (5th and 6th class)
2. Module 2: Marine projects (including by not limited to: Marine history project; Living things - Biodiversity project; Marine technology project; Marine environment and litter project; Ocean Literacy and engagement – art project. New projects themes may be introduced to classes annually).
3. Module 3: Fieldtrips to the seashore near participating class / school
4. Module 4: Marine workshops at outreach centres (held during science, maths, engineering and technology weeks at an outreach centre).
As part of the delivery of the modules to classes, outreach centres provide support to teachers with an introduction workshop for each of the modules. The outreach centres also to provide quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the classes participating in the programme as well as meeting the Explorers Education Programme™ mission statement and goals.
The aim of Explorers Education Programme ™ centre call is to increase the number of education and / or outreach centres providing Explorer modules to primary schools in the Republic of Ireland. The Explorers centres will be located in the following counties:
