In response to Aquaculture industry demand for training BIM propose to reintroduce Commercial Diver Training programmes which will be delivered at Castletown-Berehaven training centre. The Surface Supplied Diving equipment and Recompression Chamber will be used in the delivery of these courses in a training environment. The demand for suitably qualified divers to conduct underwater maintenance, repair and inspection of fish cages and associated infrastructure continues to grow as the industry expands in Ireland.

Description of the procurement

The Irish seafood sector is a diverse industry involving a variety of producers from small pot fishermen to large seafood processing factories, from small oyster farms to large organic salmon farming companies. In addition to assisting the sector through grant-aid programmes, BIM helps seafood enterprises to develop new innovative products and services through its custom built Seafood Development Centre (SDC) in Clonakilty, Co. Cork. We also provide a range of training courses to industry from safety training to skippers’ tickets, engineering courses etc.
