Description of the procurement

The supply and delivery to the Sligo County Council Machinery Yard, Drumaskabole, Ballisadare, Sligo, of one new and unused Self Propelled Velocity Patcher Machine for road repairs mounted on a three axle chassis with cab and with all ancillary equipment. The Velocity Patcher Machine for road repairs shall be single person operated from inside the cab and shall comply with the relevant requirements of the Road Traffic Acts, 1961 to 2006 and Regulations made under these Acts, including the Road Traffic (Lighting of Vehicles) Regulation, 1963 to 2006, and the Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) Regulations, 1963 to 2006. The vehicle must be suitable for working on rural roads, where overhanging trees and cables may be present. Fundamentally the unit must be able to clean a pothole, seal the pothole, fill it with a mixture of bitumen and chppings in a neat fashion in wet weather conditions, in a reasonable timescale. It must be also capable of strip surface repair of up to one metre wide. The bitumen/chipping ratio shall be calculated to ensure a suitable mix for repairing the pothole. The machine shall be capable of removing water from the pothole before filling it with a mixture of bitumen and chippings. Velocity patching is a process of pothole repair with a blend of bitumen and chippings whereby each chipping utilised in the process is fired in an airstream at speed through a bitumen spray and then onto the road repair area. The high speed placing of the material provides compaction from the bottom of the repair mass up.
