The planned site for the proposed development contains a convent building and chapel and ancillary buildings formerly used for the nun’s residential accommodation, educational, recreational and office purposes. These structures are considered to be of “Regional” conservation significance and have been identified by the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage and the Cork County Council Record of Protected Structures as being structures of particular historical significance. Consequently, any redevelopment proposals for this site must take into account the heritage, conservation and social housing objectives set for this property by Cork County Council.
