Description of the procurement
This is a call to competition by IE for the procurement of a train wash tagging
system. The scope of this procurement shall include design, supply, installation
and a minimum of 12 months support. IE has a total of seven (7) train wash
facilities at locations throughout the Republic of Ireland and this automatic
tagging system is required to be installed at each location.
The objective of the system is to identify when trains in the IE fleet have been
washed, when they are due their next wash and if they are overdue a wash. The
system should also be capable of producing reports on the number of washes
per plant in a user configurable time period, e.g. daily, weekly, per period, per
month, per quarter etc.. IE operate trains in multiple unit configurations which
change on a daily basis and the proposed system must be able to handle this
when generating said reports.
Wash facilities will not change as part of this project hence the train wash
tagging system will be required to interface with IE’s existing systems to identify
when a train is on the wash road, when the wash facilities are operational, the
type of train, its unique fleet number and its length. IE would also like to monitor
the train speed as it passes through the wash facilities as there is evidence that
faster speeds through the wash facilities result in poorer wash results.
For means of train identification IE have fitted Siemens RFID tags to all rolling
stock. Should Applicants wish to propose another means of train identification
they will need to demonstrate the successful use of that proposed technology in
a similar application.
