Short description

This is not a call for competition – participation or non-participation in this exercise will not prejudice or influence participation in any future competitions. Suppliers should note that this is a market sounding exercise only. It is open to all relevant suppliers to apply to be included in the market sounding exercise. Please note that no procurement may follow this process. The purpose of this PIN notice is to invite firms to make contact with Irish Water so that we can explore the options available to us in developing a tender process which we anticipate initiating shortly. This will be for the master station and the associated centralised infrastructure for the National Telemetry System, which will be used to monitor and report on approximately 6000 remote sites and the associated operational assets and processes. It is currently envisaged that this will not include the site based telemetry infrastructure, anticipated to be the subject of a separate procurement.

Description of the procurement

The 3 key factors we wish to explore with the market are: (I) the functionality that a Telemetry System can provide for a large water industry based application, (ii) the challenges associated with an implementation of this type, in particular taking account of the legacy systems, and (iii) how telemetry is likely to develop over the next 10 years. We are interested in hearing from companies who have successfully implemented telemetry systems based on COTS products, for the water industry, on a scale similar to Irish Water. This exercise will potentially be carried out in two phases. A questionnaire will be issued to all who submit an expression of interest, the responses to which will be used to inform us on the key factors mentioned above. We may then invite a number of participants to take part in a second phase to obtain more detail on these same topics. The selection of these participants would be made in accordance with questions and criteria also set out in the questionnaire.
