II.1.4)
Short description
The dredging works associated with the small craft harbour will require the
removal of approximately 78,000m3 of material to create a manoeuvring basin
and berthing area with a minimum depth of 2.8m Chart Datum. This will include,
approximately 17,000m3 of rock dredging with the remainder (61,000m3) being
weaker materials including marine deposits. Most of the rock is granite bedrock
and it is expected to be too strong to dredge without pre-treatment. The dredged
material (Granite) will be used in the reclamation/breakwater to be created
adjacent to the small craft harbour. Of the 61,000m3 weaker material
approximately 18,000m3 will be used in the reclamation of the water logged area
in Rossaveel Harbour, with the remainder going to a dump site at sea. Licenses
are in place for disposal of this material in both of these areas.
