Description of the procurement
Ireland’s recently launched strategy for research and development, science and
technology – “Innovation 2020” aims to make Ireland a global innovation leader,
increasing public investment in research and leveraging greater private
investment to bring Ireland’s research and development intensity to 2.5% of GNP
by 2020.
Innovation 2020 commits to a new cycle of research prioritisation, which will guide
investment from 2018 onwards, to ensure that research and innovation
investment continues to be aligned with areas of commercial opportunity that are
strategically important for Ireland.
An evidence base to support this process is being prepared with a key element of
this work being a Technology Futures exercise which will present an informed
assessment of technologies that are or will be critical to Ireland’s economic and
social development and how they will evolve over a 20 year timeframe.
