In support of their fleets of floating Aids-to-Navigation (AtoNs) and their ongoing
statutory duties, the General Lighthouse Authorities for the United Kingdom and
Ireland (the GLAs) are each users of significant quantities of mooring equipment,
including:
• Open Link and Stud Link Chain Cable;
• Bridles, including associated swivels and links;
• Shackles, including Forelock, Bow, Kenter and Joining types;
• Grey Iron Sinkers/Anchors.
The majority of mooring components will be used in the deployment of
navigational buoyage. Navigational buoys serve as markers for navigation in
many of the channels, coastal regions and seaways of the United Kingdom and
Ireland. These Aids-to-Navigation are serviced for four separate locations:
• Harwich, Essex - Trinity House;
• Swansea, South Wales – Trinity House;
• Oban, Western Scotland – Northern Lighthouse Board;
• Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin – Commissioners of Irish Lights.
