Short description of nature and quantity or value of supplies or services:

The Low Frequency Array (LOFAR) is a network of radio antennas spread

across the Netherlands, France, Germany, Sweden, Poland and the UK

operating at 20-240 MHz. Trinity College Dublin seeks to purchase and install an

LOFAR station in Birr Castle in 2016, which will enable them to join the

international LOFAR network. International LOFAR stations are composed of two

arrays of antennas: 96 Low Band Antenna operating at 20-80 MHz and 96 High

Band Antennas operating at 110-240 MHz. Each antenna contains a pre-

amplifier that is connected to a signal processing electronics via coaxial cabling.

The signal processing electronics are housed in a radio-frequency interference

shielded shipping container. Once digitised, data are send via high speed fibre

link (10 Gbs) to the LOFAR central processing facility in Holland.
