    Short description of the contract or purchase(s)

    The WISER (Working with Industrial Spaces to Exemplify Reuse) project brings together a broad spectrum of interrelated operations and expertise to champion the development of resource efficiency. The aim is to produce a centre to demonstrate excellence in reuse practice including the construction process. The Project seeks to lead change from waste to resource through reuse, redesign, research and education and as such it is desired that tendering contractors should illustrate experience in the following:

    1. Systems:

    Projects incorporating special elements of sustainable design such as grey water reuse, rainwater harvesting, composting toilets, reed beds, urine treatment dilution, green wall, PV panels, Solar panels, CHP and heat pumps.

    2. Reuse Material:

    Refurbishment projects incorporating reused materials. Refurbishment projects incorporating recycled materials.

    3. Natural Materials:

    Projects incorporating ecological design aspects with special materials that seek to exclude petrochemical based products.

    4. Non-standard Construction Materials:

    Projects incorporating elements of non-standard construction such as hempcrete walling.

    5.Innovation

    Projects that seek to demonstrate innovative and sustainable technologies.

    The project is the refurbishment of the boiler house building. It is a steel framed structure with external walls and roof consisting of single skin metal cladding with glazed panels at high level. There is a two storey section of the building at the northern end which is clad externally with brick. The refurbished boilerhouse building will accommodate a café, café kitchen, education and training room, fashion workshop, furniture workshop, cycling workshop, paint workshop, toilets, plant areas, Eco store, exhibition space and staff accommodation. The site consists of the following elements: Water Reservoir, District Heating Boiler House and Chimney, Redundant Tanks and Pumps.
