    Short description of the contract or purchase(s)

    Coillte has a national annual construction program of between approximately

    100 – 130 km of new and upgrade of unbound forest roads and associated

    ancillary works. This program of works consists of a broad range of road

    construction projects including some small projects and projects with short lead in

    times. All works are to be completed to the standards and specifications as out-

    lined in the Coford “Forest Road Manual – Guidelines for the Design, Construction

    and Management of Forest Roads (copies available at www.coford.ie).

    All works are assigned to one of 8 pre-defined geographic areas, which are

    classified as Business Area Units (BAUs) in Coillte (see map in Appendix 4,

    showing areas). Tenderers should nominate in order of preference (e.g. 1,2,3..)

    their preferred BAU to provide road construction services and also to indicate their

    normal lead-times for availability for each BAU.

    Tenderers should only tender in a BAU(s) where they have the capacity to meet

    short lead in times which on occasion are a feature of forest road construction. If

    work is offered to a contractor who subsequently is unable to meet the lead in

    times submitted in their tender response it may affect any subsequent award of

    work.
