    Short description of the contract or purchase(s)

    UCD intends to procure a sequencing service, background details for same as follows; the ERC AGELESS project involves using next generation sequencing (NGS) to uncover the molecular mechanisms of halted ageing in a unique model system, the bats. Illumina NGS RNA-Seq sequencing methodologies will be used to sequence the entire bat blood transcriptome including transcripts with low copy numbers. These transcriptomes will be derived from whole bat blood samples collected during fieldwork seasons. Extracted total RNA will range from 0.5 to 5μg per sample. Removal of all overabundant RNAs is required to ensure that rare transcripts are recovered

    The successful contractor will be required to provide sequencing services for a of Approximately 400 transcriptomes which will be sequenced over the course of the project in at least two batches. Batch 1 will contain at least 200 samples, which are currently ready for sequencing. Batch 2 will contain approximately 200 samples but this may change over time. Future sample choice for transcriptome sequencing will depend on results from the completion and analyses of Batch 1.
