    Insurance companies must be authorised by the competent Authority of the Member State from which insurance is being provided.

    If insurance is being provided on a cross border basis the insurance company must comply with the appropriate provisions of the second non-life Insurance Services Directive implemented in Ireland by S.I. No. 142 of 1991 as amended by S.I. No 244 of 1992 and the Insurance Amendment Act 2011 relating to the provision of large risk insurance business.
