Bord Iascaigh Mhara - Provision of Broodstock and selected juveniles of European Perch

Selective strain selection is an integral part of modern aquaculture. The ability to select for traits required such as fast growth, disease resistance and improved fillet yields helps to improve production costs delivering associated commercial viability. BIM has proactively been working to develop a percid sector in Ireland since the 1990’s. Recent advances in genetic research have considerably reduced the cost of such work and have opened pathways for utilisation of genetics to considerably reduce production costs. BIM has a programme of work in place with Queens University Belfast aimed at developing specific markers for European Perch. The programme now requires agreed access to certain stocks to make further improvements. BIM would now like to invite tenders for access to selected European Perch Broodstock in varying cycles including out of season. The ability to allow for tracked growth of progeny in these cycles in an approved facility is also required. This contract will cover the duration of the project from December 2015 until December 2016. The project subject to performance review may be extended for up to a maximum of two further years. Please see section 2 for a full summary of requirements.
