Construction of the following works along an existing towpath adjacent to the River Shannon over a distance of approx. 1.2km; • Upgrading of the existing towpath from an unsurfaced pathway to a 2-3m wide bitmac pathway with kerbing; •The construction of 2 no. 3m wide footbridgesimmediately adjacent to exisitng stone arch bridges and the repair and widening (from 1.5 to 3m) of 2 no. stone arch pedestiran bridges • Ducting, public lighting, some balustrades and signage along the route. The Contractor will be required as part of the works to carry out boreholes at the 4 no. bridge location to establish ground conditions/ rock level. Some limited SI work has been undertaken but due to access restrictions the completion of this SI work will form part of this contract. The piling design for the bridge foundations is based on a preliminary estimate of the rock level. The route immediately adjoins or runs through parts of the Lower River Shannon candidate Special Area of Conservation (cSAC) and the works must therefore constructed with particular attention to the protected ecological status.
