Beaumont Hospital intends to establish a multi-party framework agreement for the supply of single antigen solid phase HLA antibody screening kits. The National Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Service for Solid Organ Transplantation at Beaumont Hospital (‘NHISSOT’) provides a HLA typing and antibody screening service for the five solid organ transplant programmes in the Republic of Ireland. At any given time, the service has approximately 650 patients on waiting lists. The service also performs a post transplant HLA antibody monitoring service. Solid organ transplantation requires that recipients are regularly screened for the presence of antibodies directed against the HLA antigen system. The European Federation for Immunogenetics standards (http://www.efiweb.org) state that this must take place at least every three months and following sensitising events such as transfusions. Kits used in HLA antibody screening must be robust, reliable and sensitive. The NHISSOT currently use Luminex X Map technology to screen and identify HLA antibodies.
