Issued on Behalf of Londonderry Inner City Trust - Garden of Reflection Artist Designed Water Sculpture

The Inner City Trust as the commissioning body, are developing an urban garden in Derry city centre, as a Garden of Reflection. The project will be of local, regional, national and international significance. The overall aim of the City Centre Garden of Reflection project is: “to become a symbol of the new reality whereby previous enemies are working together and building a new type of society together – a society based on the celebration of diversity” the projects aims and objectives are • To create and develop a shared city centre venue which is both outdoors and indoors and which complements and enhances the work of other providers; • To create opportunities for the exploration of peace-building in a previously contested space; • To link this city centre venue with its immediate environs: the walled city, the Fountain estate, the Bogside, the Peace Bridge, the Ebrington Development, Waterside etc through partnership and meaningful programming; • To engage the people of the city and visitors in a programme of events which will explore central issues of: - Diversity as peace building; - History as healing; - City of Learning; - Shared celebrations and festivals; and - Values and Principles. • To create a safe space for the exploration of potentially destructive issues in ways which are respectful; - Parades; - Policing; - Interface Violence; - Bonfires; and Drink and Drugs.
