WCCC 23/185 - Joint Retail Strategy for Waterford Metropolitan Area

Section 8.5 of the Waterford City MASP as contained in the RSES states that the development of a Joint Retail Strategy to cover the Waterford Metropolitan Area has been a long-term objective and a requirement of both the now expired South-East Regional Planning Guidelines and the Retail Planning Guidelines. The latter guidelines published in 2012 state that ‘Joint or Multi-Authority Retail Strategies must be prepared’ for urban areas i.e, Waterford Metropolitan Area. This is further supported through the provisions of Section 2.3.13 of the Waterford City and County Retail Strategy (Appendix 4 of the Waterford City and County Development Plan 2022 - 2028), which identifies that actions are required to support and develop the primacy of the City Centre for retail uses through the provision of a Joint Retail Strategy for the MASP Area between Kilkenny County Council & Waterford City and County Council.
