In 2005, chuir an Lárionad tús le Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG), an chéad chóras neamhspleách tástála agus teastasaithe don Ghaeilge, córas atá ailínithe go ginearálta leis an bhFráma Tagartha Comónta Eorpach do Theangacha (CEFR), ag leibhéil A1 (Bunleibhéal) go C1 (Ardleibhéal). Tá breis agus 10,000 iarrthóir tar éis tabhairt faoi scrúduithe TEG anois agus úsáidtear iad mar shlat tomhais bhailí agus iontaofa d’inniúlacht sa Ghaeilge i réimse comhthéacsanna acadúla agus gairmiúla. Is é Lárionad na Gaeilge: Taighde, Teagasc agus Tástáil an t-aon bhall Éireannach de Chumann na dTástálaithe Teanga san Eoraip (ALTE) agus bronnadh Q-Marc ALTE ar scrúduithe TEG faoi dhó, mar chruthúnas ar fheabhas an chórais. Maynooth University’s Centre for Irish Language: Research, Testing, Teaching (Lárionad na Gaeilge: Taighde, Teagasc agus Tástáil) is a centre of excellence in Irish language teaching, assessment and resource development. In 2005, the Centre launched Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG), the first suite of general language proficiency tests for Irish, broadly aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), at levels A1 (Beginner) to C1 (Advanced). TEG exams have now been taken by over 10,000 candidates and are used as a valid and reliable benchmark for Irish language proficiency in a range of academic and professional contexts. Lárionad na Gaeilge: Taighde, Teagasc agus Tástáil is the only Irish member of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) and the TEG exams have twice been awarded the ALTE Q-Mark for excellence in language testing.
