Limerick City and County Council is looking to improve mobility in the Castletroy area. As part of the New Junction at Plassey Road project, it is proposed to upgrade the entrance to the National Technological Park and locally widen some of the surrounding roads to accommodate bus lanes at Plassey Park Road and Plassey Road (L1118). The ground investigation works comprise cable percussive boreholes with rotary follow-on, trial pits and slit trenches to characterise the ground conditions and locate existing services. Sampling and plate load testing are also required to classify the ground conditions and inform the subsequent design of the retaining wall, cycle facilities and bus facilities. In addition, a Ground Penetrating Radar survey, series of pavement cores and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer testing (from the base of the pavement cores) are also required as part of this investigation.
